Benefits of plant-based milks...
Milks, mylks, malks or… ‘plant-based beverages’. Have the descriptors gone too far? Perhaps. But whatever you want to call them, you can’t deny they’re everywhere. And for good reason.
Globally, the demand for plant-based milk alternatives has soared over recent years. Whether you’re on board yet or not, here are just some of the reasons that the team here at NuYu are passionate about our product. And we’re pretty sure you will be too.
We aren’t intolerant- even if you are
Did you know that nearly 65% of adults have some form of lactose intolerance? That’s a lot of you guys! All plant-based milks are more suited to those with lactose intolerance, avoiding nasty and sometimes awkward bodily reactions.
Our nut milks are all gluten-free for those where wheat is a no go and for those who can’t have nuts, our oat milk is your hero.
We can also cater for those with seafood, egg, MSG and food colouring allergies because we’re very inclusive like that.
Save the planet- because Sir David asked us nicely
Look, these are obviously sensitive and polarising topics. We can’t pretend they aren’t. NuYu would never want to push an agenda or make anyone feel negative about their lifestyle. Having said this, there are large scale studies into the impact the traditional dairy industry has on the earth’s sustainability.
Plant-based milk causes a third of the greenhouse gas emissions of dairy milk. Also, to produce dairy milk you’ll need nine times the amount of land as a plant-based alternative. So if you’ve been watching David Attenborough’s ‘A Life On Our Planet’ and want to make some nature-friendly switches, NuYu is a good place to start.
The best things in life are cruelty-free
Just as the above states, we aren’t about pointing fingers. But if you’d like a side of cruelty-free with your smoothie, plant-based milks are a very good way to go.
Pump up the nutrients
Obviously, each plant-based milk variety has a different blend of ingredients but they’re all special in their own unique way. Just like you gorgeous humans.
What’s true across the board is that they all are pumped about vitamins and minerals. Cashew milk, for example, has more zinc than most other options, increasing your body’s immunity. Macadamia milk is packed with healthy fats, the same kind as olive oil AND omega 7 which is good for your heart, lovers. Oat milk is awash with extra vitamins and minerals like magnesium and beta-glucans which stick themselves to the cholesterol and stops your body from absorbing it. Pretty good defense mechanism, right?
Many are lower in calories than regular dairy milk and most are also lower in fat. We could go on, and on, and on… but we don’t want to keep you here all day. So trust us, this is the good stuff.
Variety is the spice of life
There are so many delicious choices when it comes to plant-based milks. We’ve got 5 to choose from already. They each have different benefits, depending on your own preferences. We love oat milk in a morning smoothie for the low glycemic energy burn and almond milk for a fantastic creamy coffee. Pistachio milk is a new exotic choice for baking and macadamia or cashew milk goes amazing over cereal.
Unlike any udder milk
One of the common complaints we hear about alternative milks (you know, the ones not actually made of milk) is that they don’t taste like milk. And sure, in some cases, they don’t. Because they don’t come from the same place as milk. We’ve certainly come across our fair share of milks that taste as though you’re chewing on a hay bail or that curdle given the tiniest bit of heat.
